Jeanette Williams Metropolitan Funeral
Jeanette Elizabeth Turner Williams, at the age of 85, went to rest in the arms of our Lord on Monday, March 27, 2023, at her home in Norfolk, Virginia. The daughter of James and Katherine Turner, Jeanette E. Williams was born May 26, 1937, in Norfolk, Virginia. Jeanette raised 11 wonderfully blessed, talented, smart, resourceful and athletic children (five girls and six boys). Jeanette graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, Virginia, and attended Norfolk State University. Jeanette’s career covered more than thirty-three years including ten years supporting the Tidewater Area Business League as a Bookkeeper and Administrative Secretary, and serving as a civilian employee in the United States Navy. She ended her professional career as a government civilian and accounting technician with the Department of Navy after nearly 25 years culminating in her retirement from the government as a civil servant from U.S. Pacific Fleet Command (NV70) and Naval Air Station Oceana at Dam Neck in 2014. In 1974, Ms. Jeanette Williams accepted Jesus as her personal savior and was baptized at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church (AMBC) where she remained a faithful member for more than 45 years until her death. She was a longtime member of the J.W. Matthew Usher Ministry and the Music Ministry where she served in the former Jubilee Gospel Choir (the 7 a.m. choir) and the Unity Choir. Her favorite activity was studying the bible and one of her favorite songs was “Break Every Chain”. Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, James and Katherine Turner, husbands: Riley Bass and James Williams, sister, Lana Hodges, sons: Riley, Alan, and Troy Bass; and daughters: Angela Bass and Karen Bass-Horton. Jeanette leaves to cherish her memory, sisters Audrey Ingram of Norfolk, VA and Daniella Turner, brothers James (Gail) Turner and Edward (Patrice) Turner, daughters Cheryl L. (COL (Ret) Michael) Harris of Oxon Hill, Maryland, Gina J. Bass of Killeen, Texas, Stacy Bass of Killeen, Texas, and daughter-in-law Elma Bass; sons MAJ (Ret) Michael T. (Audrey) Bass, Sr. of Chesterfield, VA, Rev. Dr. Mark (Patsy) Bass of Huntsville, AL, and Christopher J. (Shenita) Bass of Norfolk, VA. She also leaves granddaughters Tracee (Doug), Jeree (Ben), Jasmin, Vanessa, Althea, and Alaina; grandsons Javaris (Marie), Michael II (Davia), Derick (Aretezia), Brandon (Shannon), James, Markee (Pamela), Jaime (Joaquim) and Christopher Jr.; and great grandsons Christian, Braylen, and Kai; great granddaughters Maliah, Michelle, Ellie, and Emerie; a host of cousins and friends and her great grandkids’ animals especially dog Cooper.
